I personally like Coca Cola very much but it’s only good for you if you don’t drink it too often. Besides the fact that it contains tons of sugar and caffeine, one can of Cola contains the total amount of sugar you need in one day, its ingredients can wreak havoc on your body. An hour after drinking the beverage, a sugar crash will begin, causing drowsiness. In addition, your body will want to expel all the water from the Cola by urinating, along with the nutrients that are important for your health. Regular consumption of the main ingredients in Coke, fructose, corn syrup, refined salts and caffeine, can lead to higher blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and obesity. Student Exchanges
Every year students from different countries come to my school: Spaniards, French, Russians, Americans and Swiss. Most of them are between 14-17 years old. Also our students are allowed to travel to the countries of their exchange partners. They go on wonderful trips to Kansas City, Minnesota, the South of Spain, Lake Tahoe, Paris, Barcelona, Rennes, St. Petersburg and Rome (even though this is not a real exchange). But why do we need an exchange? Continue reading Student Exchanges

Does School prepare you for real life?
I have decided to write about what I think is a very interesting topic namely: Does school prepare you for real life?
In a way both yes and no. In school you learn many things, not just stuff like languages, maths, history, etc., but you also learn to deal with stress, people of authority who you may or may not like, and to do tasks even though they may seem boring or pointless. While you would hope to get a job that isn´t boring and that you like, you will almost certainly be faced with at least some of these problems. So you do learn a lot for the real world but on the other hand there will still be a lot that school won´t prepare you for. You may find yourself needing subjects later in life that school did not cover. Continue reading Does School prepare you for real life?

What exactly is the UNHCR?
In the last few months Europe has been hit by a huge refugee crisis. In this context you often hear the name UNHCR. Who are they? What do they do? What does UNHCR stand for? In this entry I will answer these questions.
Have I heard of the UNHCR before?
During the last few months, news has been full of pictures of refugee camps and people wandering about Europe. Unfortunately the helpers and volunteers behind the cameras are often forgotten. One of those aid groups is the UNHCR. You can easily recognize the UNHCR-workers by their iconic shining light-blue jackets, with the organization logo printed on the back. However, the organization spends very little money on publicity.
Who are they? Continue reading What exactly is the UNHCR?

My Life In Asia
“It would be nice to have the ability to speed up and slow down time. Somethings pass too quickly, while others drag and don’t seem to want to ever end.”
There was a time where I would have given a lot to press “the invisible pause button”, simply to stop the minutes from passing so quickly. One thing I can say for sure, is that boring is the wrong word to describe my life. It all began when we moved to Asia… Continue reading My Life In Asia
Street Food
Street food is one of the greatest food trends, ever developed. I love the fact that you don’t have to feel guilty about eating things like burgers or fries. In actual fact it is fast food containing healthy components. The concept provides for a wide diversity of quickly served meals which often contain vegetables and salads. The meat is of good quality. That’s why it’s a thousand times better than what you get at places like McDonalds.
In the past years I went to street food festivals all over Austria. It is really awesome, because you get to know totally knew things, not only concerning meals but also culture. You find yourself eating stuff you would have never tried before and actually loving it. Getting to know some probably unthinkable food creation is really nothing special there. It is crazy how many varieties of burgers you can get at these places, but that’s just the beginning of a long, delightful and exciting road of awesome food.
If all of this hasn’t convinced you to start look immediately for a place which offers this kind of “diet”, here is another incentive: Street Food isn’t only tasty it is also easy to cook at home. By getting away from unhealthy fast-food you don’t just help yourself, but you also contribute to making our world a better place, by eating things which you know where they come from.
(Street) Food has the power to unite various cultures, and I think you can’t say that about a lot of things. I’m convinced that good food makes you feel good, or have you ever seen someone look angry while they were eating something yummy?
