In this blog, I will tell you how to make the best Käsespätzle and which ingredients you need to make them really enjoyable. First of all, if you are not a German speaker, you probably don’t know what Käsespätzle is. Chäschnöpfli is the original Swiss word for Käsespätzle. Käse means cheese, and Spätzle are a kind of soft egg noodles.
The ingredients you need for the dough (for about 3-4 people) are:
300 grams of flour
3 eggs
1/8 litre milk
a little bit of salt
2 tablespoon of oil
First, I recommend that you put on some music, because everything is simply more fun, as you know.
Then, you put all the ingredients, mentioned above, in a bowl and mix them together. Next, add a little bit of salt to a pot of hot water. When the water is boiling, you can put a Spätzle sieve on top of it and press the dough through it. (A Spätzle sieve is a metal blade with big holes, you can compare it to a cheese grater.) Let the Spätzle boil in the water until they float on the water’s surface. Then, you can sieve them and refresh them with cold water. While you wait, for the Spätzle to be finished in your pot, you can cut some onion, which you will add at the very end, on top of your final meal.
Then, you set up a pan with fat or oil and mix your Spätzle with as much cheese as you want. I personally add a lot of spicy cheese, like Emmentaler. In another pan, you can gently roast the onion you cut earlier. In the mean time, chop some chives, and when your yummy Käsespätzle are finished, you can serve them on a plate. Add some roasted onions and chives, on top of it, to make it look and taste delicious.
Finally, you can enjoy your Chäschnöpfli, like they do in Switzerland. Additionally it is vegetarian! Enjoy your meal, and let me know if it worked out in the comments below. 🙂
