Austria’s Next Topmodel: Boys AND Girls, not Boys or Girls

You probably know the Austrian casting show which is moderated by Melanie Scheriau. Originally it was for girls only, like the German show ‘Germany’s Next Top Model’, but since 2014 boys also have the chance to become Austria’s next top model.

I think that this was a very good idea, because now the models always have a partner of the opposite sex to do photo shoot with. It’s also very interesting to see the models shoot with models of the other sex they personally know, and to see with whom they can work together the best. Maybe there is even somebody they fall in love with.

Like always, at the end of the show there is only one winner. But I think that there should be two winners: one boy and one girl. I don’t think that you can compare boys to girls. For example on the catwalk, most of the time the girls have to walk in high heels and wear long dresses, which are not easy to walk in. The boys wear normal shoes and it is also very unlikely that they have to wear long dresses.

I do not want to say that in the modeling business it is harder for a girl than for a boy, of course there are also a lot of things which are easier for girls, but I think that it is unfair to say that someone did something better than someone else, when one task is obviously harder than another one.

If there were two winners it would be much fairer. Of course there can’t be two top models in Austria but you could say top female model and top male model.

This is my opinion. I think it would be fairer and more interesting like that. What do you think about the competition between boys and girls? Do you want them to work with each other or against each other?
